This time, the evening commenced not only to celebrate the iconic museum, raising $10 million but its 2022 honorees as well: actors Tilda Swinton (The Visionary Award) and Julia Roberts (inaugural Academy Museum Gala Icon Award), director, producer, and writer Sir Steve McQueen (Vantage Award), producer and Academy Museum trustee, Miky Lee (Pillar Award). The still somewhat novelty of the event seemed to evoke a shared excitedness among the collective of passionate film lovers, many of whom were on their way inside the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures for the first time (for some, it was a return visit following the Museum’s opening gala in September of last year). What began as an atypically gloomy day in Los Angeles pivoted for the better, just in time for the earliest of the night’s crowd to begin trickling down the red carpet. When hectic schedules are the norm, it’s a difficult feat, but for the second time, the now annual Academy Museum Gala rang in among the most star-studded gatherings of the year, dedicated to celebrating the art and history of film. You can count on your hand the number of events that can successfully usher in a hefty guest list conclusive of some of the most prominent figures in Hollywood.
